Who we are

Who we are

Friends of Saint Lucia International is a UK registered Charity, Number 281188. The idea of Friends of Saint Lucia was conceived from a desire to establish an International Voluntary Organisation with a  new vision of service to Saint Lucia.

This vision was to create an organisation which acts as a conduit where Saint Lucians and friends of Saint Lucian can serve the Island, guided by their passion, through a network of Friends of Saint Lucia Clubs and Branches under the jurisdiction of Friends of Saint Lucia International.
The causes we champion are reflected in our Voluntary Service Framework, consisting of 17 Themes, which are closely aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.  Below are some of Who We Are.

Our Values

Values are basic and fundamental beliefs that guide or motivate our attitudes or actions. They help determine what is important and as a result, the actions we take. Here’s ours.

Our History so far

The idea of Friends of Saint Lucia International was conceived in 2016, however, as a UK Registered Charity it dates back to 1980. The original Charity was a single-purpose project established in the name of The National Committee for St Lucia Hurricane Relief.  The Charity’s main scope was mainly organising responses to natural disasters as occurred on the island.

During its early life, the Charity made a number of contributions to Saint Lucia including a Mobile Blood Bank in 2017, spearheaded by the then Chairman Mr.Bertram O. Leon, OBE. From 2016, Friends of Saint Lucia was without a home and was looking to be established as a separate entity but opted to explore the idea of joining forces with an established Charity serving Saint Lucia.
After a few meetings, it was agreed that in the spirit of Nationhood, the people of Saint Lucia would be better served with a Charity that is International in scope, which appeals to Saint Lucians and friends of Saint Lucia.

On August 1st, 2018, Saint Lucia’s Emancipation Day, The National Committee for St Lucia Hurricane Relief Charity was formally renamed Friends of Saint Lucia International.
We invite you now to join our journey is shaping our future history.
